Even if it had 2 gun trucks attached, any 1/4 decent commander could have
devised an easy way to eliminate them under those circumstances. Simply
order two guys with RPGs to be the first to fire and each to fire at the
gun trucks. Chances are the first shots would have eliminated them.
They would then block passage of other vehicles around them. At that
point it is a free for all and everybody opens up on anything that moves,
especially the poor bastards standing up in turret rings trying to fire
their weapons. Classic ambush tactics 101 here, not something someone
has to go to West Point to know about.

This is, BTW, why vehicle based forces like to avoid known hostile urban
environments. In Chechniya the Russians learned this the hard way fairly
recently. And they didn't lose a few men and a couple of trucks either.
IIRC their big lesson came when the bulk of a mech infantry company, in
APCs, were eliminated.

And just to make sure... I didn't say that gun trucks would have NO
impact on such a situation. If they survived the initial volley of fire
they could inflict a lot of damage before successive vollies took them
out. This would likely result in more dead bad guys, but not much more
than that.
