CDL for Big MV?

In my research to get a 5ton MV in the future, everybody said that I'll need a "Class A" or a "Commercial Drivers License". The license is NOT about WHAT you use the vehicle for, but how much it WEIGHS. You certainly don't want a punk teenage kid* hopping into a very big very heavy truck and driving it onto the freeway. There's licenses for each class of vehicle, even motorcycles have a different class!

Is getting a Class A hard? Perhaps, but my plan was to take a part time job as a trucker for several months. At least here in the California bay-area, there's such a high demand, they are willing to cater to the employee's schedule, and location.

*punk teenage kids are: Not-responsible, immature, bad drivers, and do not they take their job seriously. I was not one. If you were one, and I offended you, I'm sorry.

Chris -

I would doubt that you would need a CDL if you never used your truck
commercially.

$150 seems cheap from my point of view here in Michigan. My Ford Expedition
costs me a few times that every year, and it only weighs 7200#.
