Hi Stu,
Remove the flasher unit and check for a short in the lamp wiring.

The flashers don't handle short circuit loads very well. The "new
generation" flasher is basically a piece of junk, with no provision for
inrush current or overloads. They didn't even label it with the "10 amp" it
is supposed to be able to switch before a breaker opens.

The original one is much better (shown in the manuals and probably built to
spec) and will trip a circuit breaker in case of a short.

So, Stu, check the wiring with an Ohm meter before installing the flasher.
