Ron's memory over thirty years is better than mine over just a month. I
think they just told me in a fire behavior class that the wet rate was 2deg
F/1000' and the dry rate was 5, and they use 3 for the average (or is it
the other way around?)

Going back to my old meteorology days
there was a Dry Adiabatic Lapse rate and a Wet Adiabatic Lapse rate...for
ease of use, they settled on -3F degree per thousand as the standard since
the air is usually considered saturated in most temperate areas....IIRC
Steve is recalling the DALR...But then again, it was a long time ago and
the memory core is getting rocky.
