Normally, when the HMMWV is to be towed by a wrecker like the M543A2
5-ton wrecker, a medium tow bar would be attached to the lower
horizontal holes in the HMMWV's front shackle brackets, and the
shackles themselves (which should be mounted in the upper horizontal
holes) are used to lift the front end up with a whiffletree bar or
chain. I don't think that would work with the shackles mounted at an
angle on the frame.
