Couldn't agree more and have had exactly that problem.

A bit like the fire extinguisher situation out here. Don't know if you
yanks use the same system or not. Ours are all red, doesn't matter if
it is filled with water or Co2 or powder or whatever. Red they are.
So you have to read the little pictures to see what they can be used
on.

Years ago they came colour coded. Yellow, Red, Silver and Blue. So
that you could tell from the other side of a building which
extinguisher to head for if say an electrical fire. But that was too
logical. Now you have to run to each one and read the little pictures.
Just don't grab a water one for that electrical fire by mistake......

Too many burocrats with too much time on their hands.
