Well Tony, it worked fine.

Let me backup a little. After tightening the screw on the resistor, the system
seemed to be fine, no clicking at all. A couple of days later I took the
vehicle to fill it up, and half way to the station (less than a mile) the racket
started again. The relay on the firewall was going to town. So I decided to
install the manual switch that day. What a relief, easy job as you and Stu
said. After I asked you how to fix it so that the 'WAIT' yellow light doesn't
come on, and you told me to take the controller card out, I did, and in the
process of pulling it out of the case, I realized that one of the two capacitors
on the edge of the card was not soldered right and its leg was loose. I am now
wondering if that was the reason for the breakdown. I soldered it and put the
card in a nice static free bag, and stuck it in the glove compartment, I am a
firm believer in 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' :-) It is working great now
with the manual switch.
