Hi Fred and List,
In responce to the pocket knife trick , let the
motor start from cold , give it five minutes , then put your finger on the
laminations or body , if it`s warm , the power is going somewhere ,
hopefully into the battery or services. NOT a garentee just a quick check .

PS will look into the brake question , and let you know !
