Steve,
You are most likely right. I had only seen it mentioned, I have never been
able to find hard facts about it. Maybe the fact that most German tanks were
petrol is why, maybe it's just urban legend or it used in trucks and the
story grew from there.

If you need a precedent of using veg oil in an MV, I have heard that during
the Africa Campaign that Rommel used Veg oil in his tanks when he was unable
to get re-supplied with diesel.

***** Its "possible" he used it in the crankcases of the engines, but ALL
the books I have show the German Armored vehicles ran on Petrol (gasoline),
NOT diesel.
Steve (who does NOT own a tank, but maybe soon enough.........

Glenn,

The warning is accurate, Bio-Diesel will attack rubber (SVO Won't). Vehicles
using Bio-Diesel should have all seals and rubber fuel system parts made
from Viton. Passenger cars and light trucks began getting Viton parts in the
early 90's before then they were rubber.

You are right on the pricing, unless it is a cheaper alternative that is
readily available, it will be fringe. I only used Bio-Diesel when it was
cheaper than Pump Diesel. Road Taxes will factor in then also. Currently I
can buy it from a local oil company that sells heating oil and lube
products. I just pull my car into their yard, fill up, and only pay for the
fuel and state sales tax. They will need to get the price way down if road
taxes are ever applied.

Hi
What do you think of the warnings from all the diesel makers that you should
not run over 20% BD in your engine due to rubber seal destruction. The BD
marketers say that you can buy the stuff to convert your engine to run
higher percentages than 20 % or just use the B20.
They definitely need to get the price under Petrodiesel buy around a quarter
and they will start to take off big time with it. Until then its just going
to be out on the fringe.
