Hi Caleb,
Most proper injectors can be cleaned and reset to their right
cracking pressure , provided they are not worn out or damaged . Even then
new nozzles and needles can be fitted . The only problem is that you need an
injector tester to do it , or take them to a diesel shop .
Modern pencil type injectors are often throw away.
 IF you are
convinced that your problem is indeed injectors them whip them out and get
them tested , for cracking pressure , spray pattern and dribble . You
indicate that your engine has not done alot of work , it is possible that
some of the injectors are sticking until they warm up , stripping and
cleaning should cure this BUT the cracking pressure must be reset on
reassembly . DO NOT be tempted to try to clean them yourself .
Clean well filtered fuel is vital for a diesel engine to work properly , the
clearances in the injector pump and injectors is MICRONS and they are VERY ,
VERY small . The components should not even be touched with bare hands as
the salt in your skin can destroy the finish , the same care should also be
taken in working on hydraulic pumps , motors ,Etc . BE AWARE that diesel
fuel can cause dermatitis .
Your knocking noise could be caused by a faulty injector !

Good luck with your project , Noel
