I work for a company that makes logistics planning software. The problem with the truckers passing on the fuel prices is that this would require the retailers and manufacturers to raise thier prices to compenstate for the rise in transportation costs.

Due to the thin margins that most retailers make unless there was a simultaneous move by all retailers to higher prices they would instantly lose customers, so they are reluctant to do so.

This is an issue that is not limited to the US. I have heard the same complaints from UK truckers as well.

When it comes to transporting vehicles on flats. If a loading dock is unavailable have a heavy rollback from a towing company lift your truck to the deck height of the flat and then transfer it over. Other option is to have it lifted by a crane on to a flat.
