GL-1 is the correct rating for the gear lube.
GL-5 may or may not have additives for EP that affect yellow metal bearings, but
is likely to have the addititives.
GL-5/MT-1 is GL-5 without the additives that effect yellow metal bearings, so it
should be ok from that standpoint, but the comment about correct functioning of
synchros and such would still apply...
I have found that GL-1 at my local Agri-Supply is about a third the cost of GL-5
or GL-5/MT-1 for any given grade...
