My experience is that the 'professions' really don't want any 'amateurs' to
assist in any efforts after a problem occurs.

Some years ago, a semi loaded with 'hazardous chemicals' overturned under a
local bridge. A friend of mine, who happened to have a Ph.D. in industrial
chemistry with 40+ years experience and ran a well-known chemical company in
town, went over to the nearby site to offer help and was told, rather rudely as
he told it, to get lost... right away. They has dozens of hazmat teams from the
neighboring towns, state troopers, traffic blocked for miles, and news 'copters
buzzing around. The video made the news at 6 and 11

The truck was loaded with cases of 'Right Guard' bound for a local warehouse. A
true case of 'Alice's Restaurant', IMO.
