David,

With all due respect (because you are certainly worthy of heaps of it IMHO),

>Yes, I could hit delete, but why should I have to? Why should I (and
>countless others) have to suffer and work because an ignorant, arrogant
>few believe themselves to be above the rules?

This has been gone over time and time again, whether the off topic banter
happens to be about politics, guns, or haggas. The simple answer is that
vibrant and intelligent on topic lists always have off topic content. It
isn't about arrogance, it's about Human nature. You can't have a vibrant
discussion medium with a core group of people that doesn't stray off
topic from time to time.

>Kiss your MVs goodbye boys, the dopes among us will undo our hobby.

Personally, this is partly why I counter off topic posts written by right
wing posters (especially the rabid paranoid ones). If people perceive
all MVers as being out of touch extremists... THAT will undo our hobby
quicker than anything. You can stop for that stop sign, not park in the
handicap space, and dutifully follow the rules of the road... but if you
are perceived as a nut... laws will be created and passed to save the
country from the "nuts" who drive them.

BTW, if there were off topic posts written by left wingers I would
counter those as well. But since I've never once in 4 years seen one on
this list, I've never had the chance.

Steve
