Re: [MV] M35A2 alignment question

Hi Bob,

The alignment spec you're describing here is
Camber, which is generally fixed on a solid axle.
I wonder if your kingpins are worn on the
driver's side - this would cause such an issue
when loaded.

The other possibility, if you are getting camber
out of spec (lord only knows what they spec'd
camber at with the NDT balloons they also spec'd
as steering tires), is that the axle housing is
bent.

In general, if you need to diagnose worn
components, jack up the wheel and then do the
following redneck diagnostics:

1. Place hands at 12 and 6 oclock. Any wiggle at
this orientation means that your kingpins (or
balljoints, if this were a m1009, for instance)
are worn.

2. Place hands at 3 and 9. Wobble here will be
tie rod componentry, although again this would
cause an incorrect toe condition, not the camber
problem you describe.

So, there are three basic alignment specs:
Toe, Camber, and Caster. I'm sure that there are
plenty of online sources that describe this a
heck of alot better than I ever could...
especially before my AM cuppa.

Remember, the grease zerk fittings on your
kingpins are there for a reason. This is a duty I
can easily remember when dealing with my project
axle housings but something I haven't gotten
around to remembering on my actual deuce. ;)
