  While this is true for recent times, during WW II this was not the common nick name for the 2 1/2 ton cargo trucks. I have yet to find a wartime reference to the truck as a "Deuce & 1/2". Most were called a "6 by 6" or "6 by" or most common, 2 1/2 ton . Solders of that time usually referred to vehicles by their tonnage rating, ie. "four ton wrecker" for a Diamond T wrecker.
