The long arm of the Law

Well it finally happened, while driving my M35 I got pulled over by two
officers in unmarked cars.

I was driving my truck today when I noticed two dark blue blazers behind me
with pretty blue and white flashing lights in the grills. I though, well
it's two of them and one of me so I better pull over. They approached the
vehicle, one on each side and cautiously ask "is this yours". I indicated
it was (did they really expect me to say, "no, I just borrowed it from Ft.
Jackson") and the officer on my side of the truck ask me to follow him to
the passengers side. We walked over and he looked at the gun and asked "is
that thing real?". I normally answer that with a "I don't think it's
imaginary" but today I thought it best to be less literal and say "No, it's
a dummy".

The other officer then remarked it was obvious up close and started to
chuckle. Of course he then revealed he had seen me about 5 miles down the
road and thought this guy has a "ma deuce". Of course the term "ma deuce"
was his way of saying he know the difference between a M2HB and "a big ol'
gun". I am guessing he called the other guy for back up other wise I can't
imagine why he would have follow me for 5 miles before pulling me over.

We then talked about what the truck must have cost. "Ma deuce" says the gun
mount must have been $1000. I told him he was pretty much on the money
there. I told them I don't always have the gun on top but I was taking it
to the Celebrate Freedom show, held in Historic Camden South Carolina on
November 6th and 7th (yea, that's a plug) and that I had "decked" the truck
out and was just out for little trip. They seized the opportunity to make
an exit and simply said "Well, we'll see you there". And it was over. Just
as quickly as St Nick climbs the chimney they where dashing to there
vehicles. I gathered from they're grins that in a state where you can haul
your huntin' rifles in the rear window of your pickup that to stop someone
for displaying a "fake" gun on their truck was a little embarrassing. Only
a little though. I feel fine knowing they would be concerned that someone
might have a 50 caliber rifle putting around the neighborhood. I suspect
the older gentlemen, "ma deuce", knew that if it was real and he wanted to
talk to me about it, back up was in order. You couldn't "Starsky and
Hutch" behind the door of the blazer and expect to be immune to the M2.

I am glad my gun looks real to the unlearned but obviously fake to a
seasoned law enforcement officer. If it looked like the real deal I might
still be talking to them about it.
