Here's what I can tell you off the top of my head! Either the design or a
prototype was completed in 1949. Production was underway in either 1951 or 1952.
It was at least 1952 as I've owned a 1952 M275. Actual production ran up until
at least 1987. I'm almost certain that 87 was the last year production. The
3053A came about with the installation of the multifuel in the mid 60s.
Interestingly, the 3053a with its weird shift pattern is based on the 3052 5 speed
where 4th gear was removed and an OD installed in its location. All other ratios
except direct were changed too. Gosh, there were just a bunch of mfrs.
Studebaker, Reo, White, Curtiss, Utica Bend, Kaiser Jeep, A.M. General and no doubt
several more that I missed. I would like to know the estimated total for that
30 yr+ run. And just think, this was supposed to be an interim truck until
another design was released.
