Re: [MV] 12 volt + ground back to - ground system

I've converted a lot of 6V pos ground tractors to 12V neg ground and never had to change anything on the starter. Unless the motor has has a permanant magnet for the field, reversing the polarity doesn't matter. Wether the armature and field windings are series or paralel the always turn the right direction. Also 6V starters have heavyer wire in the windings and last forever on 12V.

Probably missed something here but my first thought ... what about the
starter? I also admit to be electronically challenged. I know that hooking
pos to neg is a bad thing and that's about it for me. <grin>

If you change from Pos. ground (earth) to Neg. ground (earth), won't that
also require a replacement starter or re-wiring it?

Bill Kealey
MVPA 24623
1954 USMC M38A1
1972 USA M35A2
1985 USAF M105A2

===Mil-Veh is a member-supported mailing list===
To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: <mil-veh-off@mil-veh.org>
To switch to the DIGEST mode, send e-mail to <mil-veh-digest@mil-veh.org>
To reach a human, contact <ack@mil-veh.org>
