I think your idea has merit. I have been doing the same thing for a number
of years. I have one in my communications repair van, to run a laptop and
printer. However, I believe that they use two SIX-volt batteries in series,
or a single TWELVE-volt one. I have never seen a 24-volt UPS in the style
you describe.
