fuseable
link would be located that would affect the gen/alt output?

There may not be one ! the quickest way to spoil an alternator is to run it
unloaded ,without a battery to hold the voltage down !

File the following under LONG SHOT ! The battery post is made of a different
, harder alloy using antimony , this is moulded round the LEAD stub that
forms the plates . I have known this junction to fail ,due corrosion between
the two metals , there will be no outward sign of this ! ONLY under heavy
discharge testing will this fault reveal it`s self, sometimes with noise
sometimes as heating . The voltage will be there due to an acidic interface
, only collapsing under load !
Drill the post and make the connection with a self tapping screw , or cut
off the post and use either the proper mold or clamp type connector and oxy
blowpipe to QUICKLY melt centre of the old stub then continue to fill mold
with lead or salvaged old posts . This is a recognised method of repairing
badly damaged posts , for the purists the correct alloy is I think still
available !
