Sandblasting notes

I've been using a Harbor Freight style pressurized sandblaster (holds about 100 lbs of sand) in one of those portable EZ-up style tents set up on my concrete driveway..and on a good hot day the sandblaster works fine, though refilling it is time consuming because I sweep up the sand from the concrete and recycle it after running it through a screen (to get the chunky stuff out) and past a big honkin' magnet to extract the worst of the rust from the media. I get at least two uses from each bag..but the trade-off is time vs. money because the recycle process is just busy, busy work (but hey, I'm cheap, OK?). Oddly, as the day cools off I notice the sand actually lays on the concrete differently as it begins to pick up moisture from laying on the concrete as the the humidity gets higher and as the sand soaks up the humidity it begins to clog up the blaster. Luckily, this is about the time I need to quit and start the long process of cleaning things up for the night. Using the tent makes it especially import
ant to use the respirator mask and hood (it's important all the time, actually) and it's also important to have some air flowing in the tent to let the really pulverized sand to move out, otherwise it just hangs in the air and you can't SEE! (A lot like Iraq, I suppose!) The tent gives me some shade and keeps most of the sand from going all over the neighborhood so I can use it again.

Regards,
TJ
