RE: COMMENDATION on behalf of this membership (with your approval)

This is highly unusual, however it is most warranted and if I may proceed
without objection......

Dear list members, the actions of USAF Sergeant J. Dunn, ret., aka Sarge,
during a time of crisis is deserving of the following commendation by his
peers.

                                                  ****COMMENDATION****

"For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity, done at the risk of his life,
above and beyond the call of duty, during the period 31 AUG 05 through 5
SEP 05: Sgt. Dunn, aka Sarge, engaged in a military-style rescue effort
on behalf of the victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf region of the
Southern United States, in particular the State of Louisiana.

Sgt. Dunn used a POV, a M35A2 cargo truck loaded with supplies he
personally purchased and delivered to needy disaster victims along his
route to New Orleans, LA. He also used his truck for road clearing
activities whenever possible, to facilitate ingress and egress by future
rescue personnel.

At one point during his solo rescue mission he came upon a lone female
survivor who was desperately searching for help. She was stranded in
waist-high water amid much death and destruction when called to him for
help and swam to Sgt. Dunn's truck. She then led Sgt. Dunn back to
approximately 60 other civilians waiting to be rescued. He delivered
these desperate people to a manned area where they received food, water
and shelter. He continued his mission, still acting alone and ferried
more food and water to other hurricane and flood victims in New Orleans.
During a food delivery mission, Sgt. Dunn came under close range civilian
sniper fire. Sgt. Dunn returned fire from his .45 cal automatic and
expended two full clips of ammunition before the snipers disengaged and
left.

Further, despite an earlier loss of his personal life-sustaining
medication and pain medication for old wounds received in the line of
duty, possible due to theft by two of the people he was assisting, Sgt.
Dunn completed his mission.

Sgt. Dunn, has therefore distinguished himself and brought credit to his
Country and to the United States Air Force from which he retired by his
selfless acts that directly resulted in the saving of human life in the
aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

On behalf of this esteemed membership, and without objection by same, he
shall be awarded the "Silver Star" for bravery and this community's
enduring heartfelt thanks."

Signed,
J. Lee CAPT, X-USAR

This particular medal is presented, of course, unofficially, as was his
recent rescue efforts, but it is none-the-less deserved. Keeping in the
tradition of Sarge's rescue mission, I've seen a need and I've taken it
upon myself to do what I believe this group would want if we were a formal
organization.

All those in favor signify by saying,
AYE!

All those opposed, send me $50 to register your
complaint!

NOTE: This "unofficial, official award" and it's presentation case need
