Cummins NHC 250 engine - used in all kinds of Mil gear

OK, diesel nuts I have some questions. The Cummins NHC 250 engine does
not have a turbo charger, correct? What can be done to hop this engine
up? Say I want to get 300 hp or more out of this engine? What would
you do? I believe the 290 hp 855 diesel had a turbo.

Can you just swap the manifolds around and put a turbo setup on it? Or
are the pistons wrong for a turbo setup? I just got a truck with a 250
HP non-turbo cummins and I've just realized that the parts are so common
and cheap (cheap is relative) for it that I'm considering putting one
into my 5 ton M51 gasser. Looks like $2.70 gas is going to be around
for a while and I'd like to squeak out 2 more mpg out of my M51 and get
it up to a whopping 5-6 mpg. Then if I can just find some used cooking
oil............

Does anyone on this list have any experience with big old Allis Chalmers
diesels - in the 250 hp range etc. If so please contact me off the
list, I have a couple questions.

Thanks,

Dave
