OK, all, the secret's out. Rudy Diesel actually was trying to design an
economical engine that would
run efficiently on Germany's most prolific non-petroleum product...beer!
LOL!

Unfortunately, this only earned him the undying anger of the country's beer
enthusiasts. Therefore,
he switched his design to run on peanut oil. This design was successful,
but had the undesirable
side effect of causing pandemonium when the circus cane to town and the
elephants got a whiff of
the exhaust. :)
