Dang, Ronzo! You know I pull up tight anytime my name/magazine is meantioned in the same sentence as the MVPA! I don't know how to address your question.... :)

But you raise an intersting issue with which all publishers are struggling--the viability of classifieds.

Military Vehicles Magazine is a rare bird in that it is one of the few magazines in the Krause stable that still has a viable classified ad section. But we wrestle with how to keep it that way. Anyone who has received a snail mail letter or package from me knows that I am pretty liberal with the use of "Free Classified" forms. I don't know if the it matches company philosophy, but to me, it is a good investment. The classifieds are still the first place I turn when the magazine comes out and I see them before they go to press! My belief is that a lot of our readers are the same...they still like to search the classifieds.

Even though I personally LOVE classified ads, every vehicle I have purchase (both for fun and for family use) have been bought over the internet and some internet classified forum since about 1994. I stopped looking in Hemmings years ago for "fun" vehicles. Though I still look at the ads in the newspaper (in the rare instance when I actually hold a newspaper), I haven't called or looked at a 'newspaper' vehicle in years.

So, when the competition offers free classifieds, I understand their reasoning. I sent mine in!

But that still leaves me in a quandry over Ronzo's request...no, don't send me your MVPA classified ad forms. Send them to the MVPA. We (Military Vehicles) are staunch supporters of the MVPA. We want them to survive and be viable (keeps the politics out of our magazine! heh-hehe....oh PLEASE, PLEASE don't torch me on that one...It was a JOKE!). Okay, you all know I try not to comment on the politics of the hobby. My firm belief is "Its all about the vehicles...they will survive long after each one of us croaks."

Okay, enough....back to producing mags....

JAG out.

Just got in the mail a letter from the MVPA. Appears to have been a 2 page
letter, but I only got the 1st page. Last line says "Several items were
discussed and are being seriously....". What? What? Considered? Dealt with?
Ignored?
In the second paragraph it says "The founding fathers of the MVPA broke
away to start their own club, in part to allow the membership to select who
governed the association". I wonder how hard they were laughing when they
put that line in? They still allow US to select who will govern the
association, except THEY select who WE will be allowed to select from. As
George Orwell said "He who controls the present, controls the past. He who
controls the past, controls the future."
But on a sorta upside, they did include a form for 2 free adds in Supply
Line that can be used from 1JAN06 to 31DEC06.
I wonder if we could work out an arrangement with Mr. Graff where for
every form we send to him, he'd extend our subscription to MVM by one issue?
Now that would be a good and worthwhile return on our MVPA dues! Whadda ya
say JAG?

Regards,
Ronzo
