Sounds like someone's confusing the frantz filters wtih this.

If you did that, that center hole would take all the oil, and the tp itself
would just sit there - wouldn't filter anything, since there's no pressure
to force the oil through it.

Those Frantz filters were great though - used to have one on a Blazer, and a
buddy had one on his Landcruiser.
