Re: 12.5 R20 on a Deuce

Bill,

Below is a link to some pictures of my deuce with
12.5R singles. I've been running them about a year
now. For the most part I like them. They are a
little bit taller than a 9.00 series tire but not as
tall as an 11.00 tire. They are also rather light
duty so if you haul substantial weight (say over
4-5k)they aren't a good choice. I run 65 psi in the
fronts and 60 psi in the rears which is higher than
the 50 psi stamped on the tire but it has been working
out fine and it gives the truck the best handling. I
took them to a local tire shop for mounting and they
said it was more difficult with the standard width
wheels but the beads seem to seat properly. I have
not had the chance to air them down yet but it was
advised not to drop the pressure lower than 35-40 psi.
Because they are radial tires you will need to use a
radial tube. My tubes came with flaps and were about
$20 each. I can't say how they'll last because I only
have 2,000 miles on these, but in that 2,000 miles I
have not noticed any odd or significant wear. I
should mention I was going through the NDCC bias tires
about every 6,000 miles. Before using the 12.5R 20's
I was running the 11.00 NDCC's and between the two I
like the 12.5R 20's better. I miss the taller 11.00's
but the handling, traction, and ride are all better
with the radials. The wheels I'm using are the single
wheels used mostly on the GMC deuces. I got lucky and
found them locally. They are are the same width as a
standard dual wheel the only difference is the offset.
I would still like to find a set of tires and wheels
off an A3 and if I do I will discontinue running the
12.5R 20's but in the meantime they are working just
fine.

I think I covered most of it.
Good luck,

Marc
