The ham radio I have is a VX-2R. I thought you might find this interesting:

example one type of FRS radio transmits a data burst with it's GPS location. If
a mortar team had a similar radio, It would read the data burst, and provide a
direction and distance. With that they could use a chart to drop accurate fire
on our base.
