Wayne,

They appear to be standard "go" "no go" thread gages. The idea is that
you screw the go gage into a threaded hole. If it fits, you try to screw
the no go gage into the same hole. If the go gage fits, the hole is not
undersized. If the no go gage does not fit, the hole is not oversized.
In any case, the idea is to make sure that the hole, and the threads
tapped into it, are the proper size and configuration. The red plastic
on the ends is just something that the gages are dipped into to protect
them during shipping. It would be removed when it was time to use the
gage. Normally, something like this is used in a manufacturing plant, to
check items to make sure that they meet specifications.

These are marked go,no-go, one on each end and I received almost a full
50cal. ammo box with these from a military base (air base I think). I
guess these are for aircraft but does anyone know for sure or any info
would be great. TIA Wayne
