But this over-reaction is clearly our own doing.

Frisking old ladies at airport terminals, and not allowing nail clippers
on board while loading unchecked cargo into the airplane cargo holds.

While we:

Allow illegal aliens over the Mexican border (fence, why put up a
fence??) and not checking cargo containers coming into CA ports...

Homeland Security efforts seem to me to mean the general loss of common
sense in government. If it is totally illogical, blame it on Homeland
security - and that makes it ok.??

It took only 3 years for the Homeland Security group to figure out that
perhaps nail clippers are not a real threat on airplanes. Apparently
they really had to think about that situation for a while. That kind of
action is not very reassuring to me. My 12 year old kid recognized that
  was stupid 3 years ago!
