Graham,
the typical cargo hauling trailer for that size vehicle is the M101 3/4 ton
trailer. The later models of M101 had hydraulic surge brakes and the very
late models had 8 lug wheels instead of the early 5 lug wheels. Your
M1008/1009 will handle an M101 without surge brakes, so long as you don't
drastically overload the trailer.
There are several variants of the M101 available. The basic M101 chassis is
the M116.
