Hi
New starter required before you have to replace ring gear.

TO ALL:
Stumper of the week!! Installed new ring gear. Started many times after
that just fine. Now sometimes from time to time there is a heck of a noise,
something slipping , no engagement, no starting. Removed starter cleaned,
replaced starter lever as the ears were warn and there was an indication the
gear was not fully engageing. Noticed some nicked ring gear teeth. Open
solanoid, inspecteded and reversed the round contact plate. Reinstalled,
started many times there after ok. Now three days later again same problem.
Removed starter and replaced starter driver with new part. Noticed more
nicks on ring. On fifth start same problem. Could it be that the solanoid
starts the starter turning before the gear is engaged?? Any answers on what
I'm missing here?? Thanks Dennis Hankey M1009
