Re: Gas Prices? Travel? (It hurts)

Absolutely it does!!!! I've missed two events already, we've cut our casual
driving by about 15% or more since the fuel prices spiked. We're just small
time American farmers trying to make it, so we are always counting our
pennies. We know we're a dying breed even in the best of times and fuel is
always a huge expense for us. We have over a dozen gasoline and diesel
vehicles of one sort or another, tractors, trucks, etc. and when fuel goes
up, you can imagine what it does to our so-called pocket book. When that
happens it takes away my desire to travel 400 miles to an MV event!

I sold my old M35A2 awhile back over fuel costs, that was a sad day.

A few solutions loom: In the USA we have designer fuels, this means the
blend can change from state to state, what is legal in one state may not be
legal in another. When California had a refinery go down 2 years ago, we
suddenly realized our unique blend did not allow us to obtain fuel from
nearby states...prices rocketed! This is a very bad practice and yesterday
President Bush said he is going to force states to accept one standard for
blending.

Ethanol can be sold as cheaply as $2 a gallon as we go nationwide. a 10%
blend at the pump would have a dramatic effect on gasoline prices, a 20%
blend even better, right? That is, if the forces of supply and demand still

apply to this oil monopoly?

Next, State and Federal gasoline taxes are too high and this is an area that
could stand some cutting, we're up over 50% in two decades and it's not like
there isn't any room to trim a few bucks here in the ol federal government
to make up for reduced fuel taxation.

Best of luck...to us all!
