Hello all,

Who has a good part number for the Pinion Shaft Seal on the rear end of
an 85 M1009 CUCV Or know how many spline is on the pinion shaft. I do
know that the rear end is a corp. 10 bolt. If one does a search on
PN1258709 ( a good GM number) it comes back to 8.5 ring and pinion gear
(3.08) set which would make the pinion a 30 spline at 1.626 inches. (
this is according to the 34P TM) But if you do a search on Gov Lok
(particular diff lock assembly) that comes back to an 8.0
(www.drivetrainspecialists.com) application with 27 spline and unknown
diameter of pinion shaft. Then for fun the 10 bolt 8.2 corp. is a 25
spline pinion at 1.438 inches. I am asking all of this because the
durn thing leaking like crazy. I have replaced the seal with a seal from
an auto parts supplier for an 10 bolt gm but it didn't do the job.
Bearings are good, no slop anywhere. Of course I didn't save the the old
seal but the numbers matched to the new seal. In searching PN 1243465,
that does come back to 8.5 gm.

So was the wrong one in and I replaced it with a new wrong one ( That
Never Happens!) My kid suggested that I just get one of each ( they are
cheap) and when I drop the drive shaft I can count splines and install
appropriate seal which sounds good to me.
Any Help appreciated
