Limited slip, has clutches that literally slip a bit so you don't get
wheel hop when turning corners and the inside wheel is moving slower
than the outside. Limited slip is "always on".

A locker physically gears the left and right axles together so they must
turn at the same rate. A locker should be disengaged when not on a soft
surface to keep from wearing the tires from scrub and to lessen the
forces on the teeth and such when on high traction surfaces.

There are hybrid type systems like the the Powertrax that is a locker
that only engages when both wheels are going the same speed (vehicle
moving in a straight line) and powers the *inside* wheel on corners. I
have one of these on my Dakota pickemup 2wd and it works darn good.
Much better than an open diff anyway.
