I can't see where you'd put the clutches. The lineshafts are pretty
close to the bottom corners of the punt, and the halfshafts move
around too much.

There is a similar idea described in the driver's manual, for
recovering the vehicle after hub damage. You take the hub cover plate
off and replace the sun wheel in the planetary hub with a turned
spacer, converting that wheel station to freewheeling.
