151A2

Dan:
I had an A2 with original body tub (no welds). I had absolutely no roll
problem with it on or off road. The four wheel independent suspension is
excellent and has been modified in the A2 to reduce possible roll as you
heard. I think a lot of the so called "roll over problem" was due to
inexperienced drivers in the service who abused the vehicles. There is an
Army training film for M151 drivers available from Portrayal Press which goes
into this. Another issue might be the military ND tires which tend to lose
traction on pavement if wet. I did not really see this problem myself, but
they have that reputation. Commercial raidials would be better but you lose
the military look.

For the last word in M151safety, get the ROPS installed if not already on the
jeep. Used ROPS (and some NOS ones) are now available from many sources.
(ROPS is Roll Over Protection System and consists of roll bar, web straps,
netting, etc. -- looks cool). Not too expensive anymore.

If the A2 is in good condition, go ahead and buy it. Good vehicle!

============================================

I am looking at a 151A2 to purchase to drive around the farm and a little
highway use. I am aware the 151A1 have good rollover problems. I am
hoping that someone can tell me if the A2 is any safer. I am told that
they changed the rear suspension attachment point to decrease the chance of
rollover. Any information or comments on this would be helpful.

Thanks
