Right now I haven't had a need to belong to the MVPA or subscribe to
MV
Magazine. There are no local MVPA chapters or clubs. The closest area
that would have one would be Denver, Colo and that is still 8-10 hours
away. I can't see spending that much and only getting a fraction of the
benefits. Granted, the "how-to's", part resources, etc would be helpful
but, having been a mechanic in the US Army for 10 yrs and having
restored early civilian jeeps I'm fairly capable at what I'm doing.

Mark,

I'm not questioning anyone's ability, although I've restored several jeeps
and aircraft, I know there are folks out there much more capable than I. It
is just that the two organizations are such valuable sources of
information and parts sources, that I think they are a must for any
serious restorers. I am in the same boat about local chapters of the
MVPA with the closest being at least 3-4 hours away. I also don't
support totally denying anyone the ability to ask any question they want
regarding military vehicles, it is just that there seems to be a knowledge
void on the MVPA and Mil Veh magazine. I would have had a much
more difficult time and spent much more money on parts had it not been
for getting the publications which allowed me a wider base to shop
around.

Also, I support the MVPA in their efforts to protect our right to collect,
restore, maintain and most of all DRIVE our military vehicles, be they
jeeps to Sherman tanks. It won't take too many incidents like the Ft
McCoy fiasco to make the government decided that private citizens
should not have the old vehicles. MVPA is our collective voice to protect
our interest.

Abilities are nothing without parts. Parts are impossible without a
source.
