GMC M-1008 vs. M1028 CUCV

Hi,

I am new to this list, but I have been reading the messages for about
a week. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer for me.

I have an aging M-882 Dodge that I want to replace with one of the GMC
P/U's. In collecting various information, I have found that for my
purposes, I would need the M-1028. I have one of the S-250/G
communications shelters and I tow an M-116 trailer with two MEP-021 3K
diesel generators.

My understanding of the difference between the 1008 & 1028 is that the
1028 comes with the heavier/overload springs, shelter tie-down
brackets and the wiring for the 24V to the shelter. My questions are:

1. If I put the overload springs, shelter tiedown brackets and wiring
for the shelter on a 1008, are there any other differences that might
cause problems, ie, gearing, transmission, etc?

2. The 1008 is a dual 12/24V system. 12V for all internal circuits
like headlights, gages, etc. and 24V for the starter/glow plugs etc.
Is there a difference in the charging circuit/alternator for the 1028,
ie HEAVIER current? Do I need to change anything there?

3. The shelter weighs 1825 lbs stripped and I have about another
800-1000 lbs of comm gear/cables/equipment in it. Do I have to change
anything else in the suspension? Do I have to change the load range
of the tires?

I am sorry to burden the list with needing this much information, but
I am very close to purchasing the vehicle. I have a gentleman who has
a very good deal for me on an M-1008, so any help will prevent me from
making a BIG (read $$) mistake.

Thanks in advance for your help,
