The wood troop seats, backs, and the top supports are made from Oak. You
should be able to find some Oak at a saw mill, or specialized lumber store.
Your neighborhood lumber yard won't carry it. Before you buy the wood, make
sure it is either kiln dried (expensive) or air dried at least for several
years. Don't buy just-sawn lumber for this project as it will probably warp
and twist on you. The lumber you buy from the saw mill will have to be
planed down to dimension. This will also smooth up the wood ready for paint.
If you don't have the necessary woodworking equipment, probably you have a
friend (offer a ride in the vehicle in return for the machine work) with a
table, or radial arm saw. (Be sure to use a good sharp carbide blade,
especially with old Oak which gets harder with age) Apply a good coat of
primer (wood, not metal) and then your color coat.

Hope this helps.
