MB Fuel problem

I had a problem develop on my MB on a recent club outing. i thought i
would run it past you guys and see what you think before i tear into it.
Basically the carburator acts like it is flooding out. Fuel started
appearing on top of the carburator and looked like it was seeping out
from under the air-horn assembly. Also the jeep would not start unless
the throttle was pulled all the way out. Now mind you my jeep used to
start right off no problem. Also the jeep will start good when it is
cold but again once it warms up I had to pull the throttle out to start
it. My first thought was that the float was set to high. On the way
back from the club event I stopped at a members house and we checked the
float level. It was a little high but not much. put the carb back
together. Same problem. I have a commercial inline fuel filter between
the fuel pump and the carburator, When I disconnect the Carb side of
this filter the gas is pressurized and squirts out at a high pressure.
The fuel pump is new I bought it from Peter Debella at the last
convention. The carb I rebuilt and have had no problems with it until
now. The fuel filter and the fuel pump had a very small amount of
sediment but the fuel pump valves were not stuck and overall were very
clean. When I finally got home the carburator was leaking and puking
gas out of every hole and gasket surface, and the jeep would not
idle/running rough. Here are the theories being tossed around:

1: the fuel pump is pumping at too high a pressure and is not letting
the overflow flow back into the fuel tank. (this is a new fuel pump
that has 200 approx miles on it)

2: the carburator metering rod and plunger is malfunctioning

3: the carb needs therapy!!

What do you guys think?
