Yup, I said it. The M715 in stock or modified form is THE best mil.veh.
truck there is. Having said that I will say the new modern General
Motors CUCV's are pretty darn good. Their problem is they look too much
like the civilian model of the same truck. The 715 is MILITARY, from the
folding windshield to the HD bed to the flat fender extensions to the PTO
winch found on some of them. THEY FLAT OUT LOOK LIKE A MIL TRUCK!! I have
had two, one I had in my wild twenties in Tucson, it ended up outlasting
me in back country exploration trips and sand wash running and it was
stock for most of it's life. The one I have now is heavily modified on
the inside but all 715 on the out. I refer the hummer as the rich man's
715. There is a guy who owns a hummer here in Flagstaff, Arizona where I
now live who won't accept my challenge to a tug-of-war for $50!! His has
a Chevy Gas engine and Series 400 auto like mine but still KNOWS he will
lose. By the way are there any other hummers out there who will accept?
I'll be glad to show up in Moab this summer. Do I like 715s?? They are
technology from the 60's when America used to build real vehicles.
Compare that to the 30's model M37, a cute truck but really dated and
hard to work on. And those little jeep things, M38 and whatevers, ha!, I
can carry a full cord of oak firewood and not even put a strain on the
springs. And pull a M101 Trailer with another cord behind it. And I only
have about $2000 invested in mine. Best bet is go to the 715 page on the
MVPA.org network, 715 owners are there that can help you with anything
you need. Drop me a note, I know of a couple for sale here in the
Southwest. OF COURSE A 715!! (now folks, whatever MV you have is the
best one, so don't waste the net's time by flaming me about your
particular vehicle, actually I love 'em all)
