Jim,
I found the seal you need to replace in the cross-sectional diagrams
in Sarafan's catalog (SNL G503) and Beachwood's catalog as well. Oil Seal
part numbers are FM-GP-7770-A and WO-A-958 depending on the cross
reference used. Also, from the diagram the seal wears on the yoke; not
the shaft and that is more easily replaced than repaired. That same
transfer case was used on CJ2A through CJ6 and M38A1(according to
Beachwood) so the parts should be easy to obtain at your local NAPA or
though the MV parts guys. I know there are several under the workbench in
our barn and I'm sure we can spare a yoke if you need one for your new
seal. The seal looks like a press fit but there is room between it and
the shield on the diagram to shim the seal out like Jeff proposed and use
your current yoke. Any good hardware supplier should have washers that
size to use for shims and try to look for Mil-Spec washers with part
numbers like AN-XXXXXX as they are made with consistent thickness and
will keep the seal square. Common hardware washers have varying thickness
in the same piece and if the seal is cocked at all the seepage will
continue.
