There were indeed Air Force jeeps. When yours may have transfered to them is
open to debate. USAAF would have been OD so I would guess that the light blue
would indicate post-war transfer to the USAF when it became a separate
service. The RAF also used a lot of OD jeeps sprayed in RAF blue. Other
services took OD vehicles if needed and simply sprayed their color over the
factory in most cases we've seen. For example we had a US Navy jeep that was
battleship gray over OD. We've been scraping the layers off the '43 GPW
outside the barn and the first military layer is yellow and black
checkerboard of a follow me jeep. The military arctic top still shows the
USAAF markings on the doors. One point to remember if you restore as an Air
Force jeep of any service is to leave off the spare tire, gas can, pioneer
tools etc. They were not carried because the vehicle was not going to be far
from the base garage/ motor pool.
