Not really.

I have seen the military change out the gearing on certain vehicles to make
them better suited for over the road use (i.e. convoy control).

Granted it was the National Guard, but they are still a vital part of the
military.

I have also been on a number of air bases where the Air Force Techs had
regeared a few vehicles for "recreational" and "other than recreational"
purposes. These vehicles included fire trucks, ambulances, staff vehicles,
etc.

So, if the military does it, how can my regearing be "breaking my own rules?"
