For some reason, this is the ONLY rusted part on the entire vehicle. It is easy to imagine
acid from some cargo of batteries, or perhaps salt brine, seeping over the front edge of
the bed floor and down into this channel, which may have already been full of silt, thus
keeping the corrosive mix nice and wet for a long time. Whatever caused it, none of the
other support channels are rusted.
While I could have a new part fabricated on a bending brake, I'd prefer to use an original
part if I can find a good one.
