The Pre Normandy Dodges had the vertical bars set in the horizontal cross
members. This would include the headlamp guards as well. My 42 WC 52 has
the correct grill assm. but the wrong guards. My 42 WC 56 has the correct
grill and guards. You were correct in that each bar was drilled and set in
place and the reason for the conversion was the increased production
requirements and time savings in assembly. There were lots of other subtle
differences in the early and late Dodges as well. Regards, John
