Guess you could say he flooded the engine!

I once knew of a guy who decided to test his fuel pump. He had the =
carburetor off. Not wanting to spill the fule on the ground and make a =
mess, he directed the fuel line into the open intake manifold. Then, when =
he cranked the motor, the pump worked perfectly. The engine started and =
gained RPM until it essentially detonated, spilling engine parts in =
almost every direction.

Y'all be carefull out there, hear?

I see -- a way to tell if an empty bowl causes the stall. Definitely a
great idea, but I'm not sure I can get a view down into this carb. It =
has a
built-in right-angle throat. Maybe I can do it with an inspection mirror =
and
flashlight. And would the accellerator pump work on this carb if the =
engine
is shut down -- someone pointed out that engine vacuum actuates the
accellerator pump on this carb. Hmmmm....

I like it already! Let's do it. Where's my liquid O2?

I cranked the engine with the fuel pump output connected into a pressure =
gage
and got the 3 psi figure, but now that you mention it, it would indeed be
useful to see the relative strength of the stream. I remember how my old =
'65
Ford Falcon's fuel pump could squirt, so I have some standard of =
comparison.

Thanks Alan! More trobleshooting tips =3D a more productive weekend for =
me and
the M38.
