Hello list,
Regarding the machine gun replicas, I have several opinions on this matter.
I called the Rock Island Armory to order a replica M2 HB. I specifically
asked for this gun and also asked if they would make a gas simulator ready
gun. Was assured they could and would. Weapon was ordered in January 97 and
was told it would take 4 to 6 weeks. No problem right, WRONG! Finally after
calling several times, I received a gun, IN MAY. Excited about its arrival,
I ripped the box open and low and behold, a gun appeared. Not an M2 but an
M60! Oh and it was made with some of the lowest standards I have ever seen.
Barrel and sights were welded about 20 degrees out of line with each other,
no welds anywhere were ground down and dressed up, no access for gas
simulation. I sent it back immediately and WAS refunded my money. They
stood behind the product and that I thank them for. After searching around,
I found a guy named Lee Hutchins in CA who builds replicas and has a very
good reputation. I have seen his work and you can not tell even holding the
gun if it is real or not. It is entirely reproduced and is set up for gas
simulation, and the best part is it was $585. He casts the sights and small
parts just like the originals and the detail is outstanding. He also makes
1919A4's and a variety of other guns. He only does this a side job so
sometimes it takes a while but it is worth it. If anyone is interested in
more information regarding Lee give me a call and I will forward you to him.
You can contact me at 612-440-8778. Best regards to all, John
